        Meet Rhonda

iRest®/Yoga Nidra Guide,

Certified Yoga Teacher, LMFT, retired

I received my B.A. in English at UC Berkeley, 1982, and after starting a family, completed a M.S. in Counseling Psychology at Dominican University, while also being a student of Yoga, Buddhist Psychology, and Christian mysticism. Here's my back story. As a child I enjoyed writing poetry and prose, day dreaming and gazing at nature. Drawn to all kinds of music, I played around on the piano and sang in a local church choir. Although I was not raised in a religious family, I was compelled to imagine and contemplate what Mystery/Source/God is, and often walked in the hills of my neighborhood above the city of Los Angeles. I had various jobs throughout my 20’s and 30’s, including working as a film production assistant and location scout. But I continued to be drawn to personal inquiry and I knew I wanted something else. At 40, as a mom with two small children and a teenage stepdaughter living with us, I decided to go to graduate school in counseling psychology. From 1994-2024, I was an LMFT psychotherapist, and concurrently, in the early 2000's, I became a Certified Integrative Yoga Teacher and iRest/Yoga Nidra Meditation guide, which brought everything together. My work has been influenced and fostered by an eclectic interest in how science, spirituality, and psychology meet, and practices from teachers of different origins, blending various branches of psychology, Buddhism, Yoga, and early Christian mysticism.  My teachers included Krishnamacharya, Desikachar, Adyashanti, Rick Hanson, Richard Miller, Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Erich Schiffman, Jean Grant-Sutton, and many others. I have offered iRest/Yoga Nidra meditation to many organizations including working with the shelterless at the Mary Isaak Center in the "At Home Within" program in 2007, which was created by Richard Miller and John Records in Petaluma California.  I have taught students in the Integrative Yoga certification teacher training programs, as well as staff at Sonoma State University and Kaiser Permanente. Additionally, I was a featured teacher on JabuMind, a meditation app designed for school teachers. Aside from teaching classes, and offering individual sessions on Zoom, my husband and I play classical Indian music together and also sing in a band. I enjoy family time with my children and grandchildren, ocean-gazing, photographing the present moments, writing, and sitting in Stillness.  Oh, and I love to Dance! It is my joy and blessing to continue to bring this to you and others. I hope you will come try out my classes and check out more offerings.
